What You Can Do

Become a money box holder

Every little bit counts and by taking one of our money boxes home (or to work) with you – you can help The HIV Support Centre make a real difference.

If you would like to become a Money Box holder contact us to request a box.

“This is a fantastic idea and something I think we can all get involved in. I decided to give a Money Box to each of my family and friends and now they’re asking me for boxes for their friends too!! People have been really supportive. Not only is it raising money it’s also raising AWARENESS.”

All old mobiles will either be used in developing countries or recycled.

If you can help please send your old mobiles to The HIV Support Centre, 3rd Floor, The Warehouse, 7 James Street South, Belfast BT2 8DN (or call in if it’s handier for you!).

Fundraising events

The HIV Support Centre needs to consistently raise funds so that we can provide vital support services and education throughout Northern Ireland. All money raised in Northern Ireland is spent in Northern Ireland and YOUR help can make a huge difference.

If you would like to get involved why not sign up to take part in one of our community events or alternatively why not organise a fundraising event of your own. We will be on hand to give you all the advice and support you need!

Leave a legacy

Considering a bequest in your Will is one of the most powerful and valuable things you can do to help The HIV Support Centre.

You may or may not think you have very much to leave, but when it is all added up, most people have rather more than they imagine to leave behind. If you have not left clear instructions, you will have no control over your assets. If you have no relatives, all your money will go to the government instead of those causes you would like to support.

By leaving a sum of money to help others, you can ensure that your influence for good carries on into the future, and that those things you believe in are supported. You should, of course, ensure that those close to you are provided for before giving anything to The HIV Support Centre.

Drawing up a Will is important and we recommend that you should speak to a Solicitor. If you already have a will, but would like to support The HIV Support Centre, a solicitor can help you to add a ‘codicil’ – an easily arranged amendment to express this wish.

If you do decided to leave a sum to The HIV Support Centre in your Will, please accept our thanks. It also helps us a great deal if you tell us about your bequest. Knowing how many people want to support us in this way helps us to plan for the future, making sure that future funds are used effectively.

Money left to The HIV Support Centre is spent providing information, support and education in Northern Ireland.

If you would like to speak to someone in confidence about leaving a gift in your Will please contact Maria by clicking here or phone 028 9024 9268.

Making a donation

You can make a secure online donation via PayPal

* The Government operates a scheme called Gift Aid that allows charities to claim 28p for every pound donated. So if you donate £100 to The HIV Support Centre, it means that you’ll actually be giving us £128. Giving under Gift Aid means that much more money can be raised with much less effort.

Donate by Cheque

If you would prefer to donate by cheque, please make your cheque payable to ’The HIV Support Centre’ and send it to: The HIV Support Centre, 3rd Floor, The Warehouse, 7 James Street South, Belfast BT2 8DN.

Donations in Lieu

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest experiences for any person. Leaving a donation in lieu of flowers will ensure that your gift will help to make a difference. Please send donations to the above address or if you would like to speak to someone regarding a donation in lieu of flowers please contact Maria on 028 9024 9268.

Give As You Earn

Make a donation directly from your salary. Please speak to your employer to see if your workplace supports this scheme.

Gift Aid your Support

When you make a donation, if you are a UK tax payer, please don’t forget to sign a Gift Aid Mandate. This means we can reclaim the tax through the government’s Gift Aid scheme which will make your donation go even further! For example, on a donation of £10 we can claim back a further £2.80p in tax and it doesn’t cost you any extra! Please return your completed Mandate with your donation.

For further information and advice on making a donation please contact Maria Kinney, Business Development Manager on 028 9024 9268 or maria@thehivsupportcentre.org.uk

Regular giving

You can make a secure online regular monthly donation via PayPal

* The Government operates a scheme called Gift Aid that allows charities to claim 28p for every pound donated. So if you donate £100 to The HIV Support Centre, it means that you’ll actually be giving us £128. Giving under Gift Aid means that much more money can be raised with much less effort.

Regular gifts enable us to plan our work in advance. By giving a small amount on a regular basis, you give us the confidence to commit to long-term projects, knowing that we will have the funds available to support them into the future. Your monthly donations may seem like a small amount but this form of ongoing support really is the most effective way of supporting The HIV Support Centre.

In terms of benefits for you, the donor, giving on a regular basis allows you to budget your support. You are able to spread the cost over a long period, paying smaller amounts on a monthly basis, but still significantly contributing to the vital work of The HIV Support Centre.

If you would like to speak to someone about regular giving please contact Maria by clicking here or phone 028 9024 9268.

Volunteer with us

Volunteers play a vital role in everything that we do. From answering the Telephone Helpline to taking part in awareness raising activities. Everyone who volunteers is valued beyond measure.

Volunteering at The HIV Support Centre

The HIV Support Centre was founded by volunteers and the work done by people offering their time, commitment and experience as volunteers continues to be vital to the charity.

People volunteer to do all sorts of roles, from helping out for a few hours at a fundraising or information event to putting up posters in their local towns or cities. Some volunteers are involved in the Telephone Helpline service and others on the Management Committee. We train all our volunteers fully for the role that they choose, and we give them support and supervision to make sure that they are happy with the work that they are doing.

People volunteer to help us for all sorts of reasons, which may include:

  • giving something back, because they have received our help and now want to use their experience to help others
  • gaining skills to help get them into a particular area of paid work or study
  • meeting people
  • trying something new

Applying to be a volunteer

The first step towards becoming a volunteer is to contact us here at the Centre. Just download an expression of interest form from the downloads section of this website and post it to us or give us a call on 02890 249268
