The Lord Mayor of Belfast has praised The HIV Support Centre for its commitment to raising awareness about HIV and AIDS.
Speaking during a visit to The Centre on 5th May 2009 Councillor Tom Hartley said “I’m delighted to be here today and meet staff and volunteers who are working extremely hard to raise awareness about this very important issue.
“I am firmly committed to achieving equal rights for every citizen of Belfast and I want to congratulate staff for the work they are doing.”
Councillor Hartley chatted with staff, volunteers and members to hear first hand about the challenges facing The Centre and the reality of HIV and AIDS in the North of Ireland.
Chief Executive of The HIV Support Centre, Kieran Harris, commented “This is an historic occasion for The HIV Support Centre as Councillor Hartley is the first Lord Mayor to visit our Centre.” He added that The Centre needs to continually seek further funding in order to underpin and further develop its work.
